5 Reasons Why Online Learning at CCU is For You

There are many misconceptions when it comes to getting an online education. Some think it will be isolating. Others worry that the quality of education isn't the same. Most wonder if they can fit it into their busy schedule if they have a full-time job. Here are 5 of the top benefits of earning your degree online with Colorado Christian University

  • Convenience at Your Fingertips

Colorado Christian University offers online classes through the Brightspace learning platform. This allows you to access your courses from anywhere that has an internet connection. The easy-to-navigate system provides you with everything you need to succeed as an online student. Assignments have due dates, but it's up to you when you work on them. Most classes are five weeks long. This means you can take one class at a time and still have time for life's adventures. Weekly due dates mean you can work on your assignments when it's convenient for you.

  • Engaging Conversations

Discussions are an important part of each class at CCU because it simulates traditional classroom conversations. These required discussions allow students and instructors to post comments, react to others' comments, and respond to ideas shared by anyone in the course. In a typical discussion, the instructor will pose a topic or series of topics for discussion, and you will be required to respond and engage with your classmates in a virtual classroom setting.

  • Setting You Up for Success

Before you begin your first class, you will have the opportunity to go through CCU's New Student Orientation, which will help familiarize you with the processes and expectations of an online student and what virtual learning will look like so you know if it's the right choice for you. CCU also provides you with a subscription to Grammarly and Perrla to help ensure your papers are in the best shape possible before you submit them. Your professor will have "office hours," so you can reach out for clarification and help if needed.

  • Integration of Faith and Learning

The integration of faith and learning refers to the process of connecting your faith or religious beliefs with academic studies and learning. It involves examining how your faith or religious worldview can inform and shape the way you approach your studies and apply your knowledge to real-world situations.

The integration of faith and learning at CCU can be beneficial in several ways, including:

    • Providing a Sense of Purpose: Understanding how your studies relate to your faith and how you can use your knowledge to serve others and make a positive impact in the world helps you find a higher meaning and purpose in your studies.
    • Encouraging Critical Thinking: Thinking critically about your beliefs and how they relate to your academic studies can help you develop a deeper understanding of both your faith and your academic subject matter.
    • Enhancing Moral and Ethical Development: Developing a strong moral and ethical foundation based on your religious beliefs can help you make ethical decisions and act with integrity in your personal and professional lives.
    • Fostering Community: Creating a sense of community with other students who share a common faith or religious worldview can provide support and encouragement as you navigate the challenges of academic studies and personal growth.

Overall, the integration of faith and learning can provide you with a holistic and meaningful approach to your academic studies, helping you develop as an individual and make a positive impact in the world.

Expand all

Are online degrees as good as a degree that I can earn in a classroom?

CCU's degree programs — online and classroom-based — are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Associate of Colleges and Schools. At CCU, "online" refers only to the format of the courses, and your degree will be the same whether you take courses in a classroom, online, or a combination of both. Many educators believe that online study results in a more comprehensive understanding of the course material.

Are online classes more difficult than classroom-based courses?

No, an online class will cover the same course material as an in-seat class. Online classes are designed for people who prefer the Web learning environment, and find it more convenient to take classes online.

How is an online course set up?

Online classes blend the latest eLearning technology with the latest educational theory and practice. Students attend classes online, do research using the Internet, exchange emails, and participate in online discussions. Even assignments and tests are submitted online. Weekly assignments are required, but the course design generally allows participants to complete coursework at the times and places that work best for them before scheduled deadlines.

Will I be able to access my courses on my smartphone?

Yes, Brightspace has a mobile app called Pulse that allows students to check updates, watch video, or receive notifications on their smartphones, making distance learning extremely convenient.

Is there start and end date for online classes or can I just take them when I want?

Online courses run in a block system every semester with specific start and end dates. See the College of Adult and Graduate Studies Academic Calendar for current block start dates.

How long does an online course run?
