News: Police Chief Recognizes CCU

CCU Receives Chief's Special Recognition Award

On Saturday, August 21, 2010, the Lakewood Police Department and many of its personnel were proud to participate in a partnership initiated by Colorado Christian University.

As part of its community-service requirement for students, CCU coordinated a community-cleanup day to assist not only the City of Lakewood in beautifying its streets, but also the elderly and those financially unable to afford a cleanup effort. Numerous locations were identified for cleanup to include trash pickup and removal, yard work, tree trimming, weed and trash removal on right-of-ways, as well as graffiti removal. Approximately 100 students and advisors worked in cooperation with the Lakewood Police Department during the event. Several "shifts" of CCU students were used and their efforts were coordinated, well executed, and efficient.

This was an example of community service at its best. The Lakewood Police Department takes pleasure and great pride in partnering with CCU in its efforts to build strong and lasting relationships within the community we both serve. I take great pleasure in presenting Colorado Christian University with the Chief's Special Recognition Award in appreciation of your special support to our community and to men and women of the Lakewood Police Department.
