Trustee Spotlight
Dr. Mark W. Sheehan is an interventional cardiologist who has been practicing in Denver since 1981. He retired from active practice in December 2018.
Born in Staten Island, New York, Sheehan grew up in Syosset, New York, and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1963. He graduated from Wyoming High School in Cincinnati in 1967 and then attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1971.
Sheehan married his high school sweet heart, Linda Stevenson, June 20, 1971, one week before starting medical school at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He graduated from medical school in 1974 and then completed his internship and internal medicine residency at the Baylor Affiliated program in 1977.
Sheehan served two years in the United States Air Force stationed as a cardiologist at the Wright Patterson Air Force base until 1979, when he moved his family to Denver to complete his cardiology training as a fellow at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
The Sheehans have been blessed with two children, Chris and Laurie. The couple independently became Christians in 1980 while attending the Faith Presbyterian Church. They have been active in their churches in Denver, serving together as deacons and Mark as an elder at the Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church.
In June 2000, Sheehan was led to Cambodia, and along with Dr. Nam Cho and Dr. Dan Smith, founded the Christian Medical Ministry to Cambodia/Jeremiah’s Hope in January 2004. In 2010, Sheehan, with help from his son, published the book Healing Prayer on Holy Ground: A Cardiologist Discovers God’s Presence in the Lives of His Patients. On May 10, 2014, Sheehan received an honorary doctorate of humanities from Colorado Christian University for his ongoing work in Cambodia.
Sheehan has decided to volunteer for the indigent at the Doctors Care Clinic after retirement, serving as a consultant cardiologist. He also hopes to be active teaching the medical and nursing students in the Denver community and hopes to continue being active in the Christian Medical Ministry to Cambodia/Jeremiah’s Hope as long as the Lord chooses.
