Trustee Spotlight
Mike Kopp is a Managing Partner with STAPLE Investments. He is the recent past President and CEO of Colorado Concern.
Kopp’s career began as a paratrooper and Ranger in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division. He served in the Gulf War and Operation Golden Pheasant in Honduras. After leaving the Army he was a hotshot firefighter and was deployed to many wildfires in the western US.
Kopp went on to earn an undergraduate degree from North Central University. He entered the ministry serving in church settings as a senior leader and as a leadership consultant to ministry and nonprofit leaders. He completed postgraduate work at the University of Colorado-Denver.
He felt a sense of call to run for office and was elected and re-elected in a competitive Colorado senate district. During his tenure he was elected to serve as caucus chairman and senate minority leader. He would later run for governor after winning the state’s nominating convention.
He was recruited to serve on the senior management team of Colorado's largest electric association where he managed the corporate affairs division.
Kopp was appointed by the Secretary of the Army to serve as a Civilian Aide to the Secretary, and by three Colorado governors to serve in various capacities.
Kopp is a former Ironman competitor and distance athlete and is focused on future endurance events. His favorite pastime, however, is spending time with his family on their cattle ranch near the Black Hills of South Dakota, where he and his wife, Shannon live with two of their five children. They are also blessed with six grandchildren. For Kopp each new day on the ranch brings to life the words of the Psalmist: "The heavens declare the glory of God. The Skies proclaim the work of His hands."
