Colonel Russell Lee Craig Jr. Recurring Scholarship

Established 2023

David and Terry Fagin established this scholarship in honor of Terry’s father, Colonel Russell Lee Craig Jr., who entered the U.S. Army right after high school. Col. Craig was commissioned on the battlefield during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II and served in the First Infantry Division of the Army. He also fought in the Korean War. In 1954 Col. Craig was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone and served as the Aide to the Commanding Officer of the Panama Canal Zone, General William K. Harrison. General Harrison was the President of the Officers’ Christian Fellowship at the time and it was the General who led Col. Craig to a deep and meaningful relationship with Christ. Col. Craig received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha while serving in the Army.

Education was very important to him and he understood the value of a college education and knew from personal experience that sometimes a degree is completed later on in life as an adult student. When he retired, Col. Craig spent a great deal of time fundraising to help provide financial assistance to underprivileged high school students to go towards their college education. He was also involved in the local area Young Life Committee because of Terry. The desire of David and Terry Fagin is to continue the legacy of Terry’s father by providing financial assistance to veterans who are pursuing an undergraduate college degree in CCU’s College of Adult and Graduate Studies.
