GI Bill® Information
GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
VA education programs, often referred to as simply the GI Bill®, exist to help Veterans and current Service Members pay for their civilian education and training programs. The two most common education benefits for dependents are The Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) Program (Chapter 35) and the Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33).
With the passage of the Harry W. Colmery Educational Assistance Act of 2017, otherwise known as the Forever GI Bill®, various provisions of the Act may have an impact on veterans’ educational benefits. Please visit the VA’s website for more information about the Forever GI Bill®.
Chapter 33 – Post-9/11
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® has a few specific components that are unavailable in other GI Bill® programs:
Chapter 35 – Dependents Educational Assistance
The Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.
FRY Scholarships
The FRY Scholarship is available for children and spouses of service members who have died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001.
