Special Education Master's Degree Curriculum
The Master of Education in Special Education curriculum provides graduates with an M.Ed. degree with a recommendation for Special Education Generalist Licensure from the Colorado Department of Education. After completing the required coursework, candidates must pass the Special Education Generalist state-approved content exam and apply to the Colorado Department of Education for certification for special needs education. Graduates also meet the requirements for certification by the Association of Christian Schools International.
The master's in special education is designed for working professionals and can be completed online in as little as five semesters. This Special Education master's degree curriculum offers coursework that utilizes proven approaches to accelerated adult learning by providing interactive and experiential education. Most courses can be taken entirely online; however, the teaching internship and student teaching coursework are offered in-seat only.

M.Ed. in Special Education
- Master of Education in Special Education non-licensure track requires completion of the following 38 credit hours: Special Education degree core (35 credit hours) and Non-Licensure core (3 credit hours)
- Master of Education in Special Education licensure track requires completion of the following 43 credit hours: Special Education degree core (35 credit hours) and Licensure core (8 credit hours)
M.Ed. in Special Education — Alternative Licensing Emphasis
- Master of Education in Special Education Alternative Licensing Emphasis requires completion of the following 43 credit hours: Alternative Licensing Emphasis core (29 credit hours) and Special Education degree core (14 credit hours)
M.Ed. in Special Education — Generalist Endorsement
- Master of Education in Special Education Generalist Endorsement requires completion of the following 41 credit hours: Special Education Generalist Endorsement (24 credit hours) and Special Education Generalist Endorsement core (17 credit hours)
