CCU Music Department Awarded NASM Accreditation
The Music Department at Colorado Christian University has been accepted for accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the national governing body for schools of music in higher education.
The accreditation comes after a lengthy application process that included a self-evaluative description (self-study), an on-site review by a team of evaluators, and judgment by an accreditation decision-making body. These reviews focused on evaluating educational quality, institutional integrity, and educational improvements at CCU. After hard work and dedication from Music Department faculty and staff, CCU was officially awarded the accreditation in November.
The Music Department faculty and staff believe this accreditation will greatly benefit CCU music students. "Membership in NASM a mark of distinction, and is highly prized and sought after. It assures a high standard of excellence and education to those who would study music at its member institutions," said Steve Taylor, chair of the Music Department at CCU. "Accreditation for the CCU Music Department has now put us in the same category as any major institution."
The National Association of Schools of Music was founded in 1924 for the purpose of securing a better understanding among institutions of higher education engaged in work in music; of establishing a more uniform method of granting credit; and of developing and maintaining basic, threshold standards for the granting of degrees and other credentials.
