CCU Graduates Prepare for Lives of Excellence
Saturday, May 7, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of 538 CCU graduates as they celebrated all they have accomplished by participating in a commencement ceremony at Cherry Hills Community Church.
Dr. Wess Stafford, president of Compassion International, gave a commencement address focused on striving for excellence in the Christian life, challenging students to reflect on how their education will help them prepare for lives of excellence.
Dr. Stafford is an internationally recognized advocate for children in poverty. His daily radio feature, "Speak Up With Compassion" is heard on nearly 600 radio stations in the United States. Founded in 1952, Compassion International is one of the world's largest Christian child development agencies, partnering with more than 65 denominations and thousands of local churches to serve more than 625,000 children in 23 countries. During the commencement ceremony CCU President Dr. Larry Donnithorne presented Dr. Stafford with an honorary doctorate in humanities for his work and service.
Other commencement speakers included Bethany Longmire, a graduate from the College of Undergraduate Studies who was selected by the faculty to speak in the ceremony and Vivian Tapp, a graduate from the School of Adult and Graduate Studies and former Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Education Honor Society scholarship recipient. The valedictorian was Laura Caldwell, a graduate from the College of Undergraduate Studies.
