Women's Soccer Earns Banner at 2011 NCCAA Regionals
This year, Colorado Christian University was proud to send the Cougar women's soccer team to Kissimmee, Florida for the NCCAA National Women's Soccer Championships. The team was seeded #8 in the National Championship Tournament, and immediately took on the #1 seeded competitors, California Baptist University, in their first game. Unfortunately, the Lady Cougars took a rough loss at 3-0 and will compete again on Thursday (12/1). They'll take on the loser of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan University game.
Only two weeks ago, CCU's team fought hard in the NCCAA Central Region Championships, representing the school in Waxahachie, Texas. After a 5-15-1 season, all the women were hungry for a victory in the NCCAA competitions. The team was hoping for a chance to play in Nationals, weary of a mostly losing season and ready to play at the level of competition to which they knew they were capable.
In their first game of the regional tournament, the Colorado Christian University women took on Southwestern Christian University, dominating with a 3-0 win. In their second game, the Lady Cougars defeated the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles, securing a place in the championship game. After those two victories, the team was charged up on their wins--only a 90 minute battle against Mid-America Christian University stood in the way. CCU fought hard to earn a 2-0 victory over MACU, capturing the Regional Championship banner and securing themselves a place in the National Tournament. Read the complete recap here.
Regardless of how the final game in the National Championship tournament results, the women are proud to boast possession of the Central Region Championship Title for the second year in University history.
