Colorado Christian University Named a College of Distinction
For the second straight year, CCU has been named a "College of Distinction" for its engaged students, great teaching, successful outcomes, and vibrant community. Listed by the website Colleges of Distinction, the honor marks CCU's rising status. Only five colleges in Colorado received the award, and CCU is the only Christian college among that group.
"So many dedicated staff and faculty make this distinction possible," said Vice President of Student Life Jim McCormick. "Staff work around the clock to ensure that students have the opportunities for growth and learning that they desire - and need. And, our professors are known for taking time outside of their teaching schedules to invest in students."
One of the marks of a College of Distinction is the commitment to teaching undergraduates - which entails faculty in front of the class, not graduate students or teaching assistants. "Every class at CCU is taught by a professor," McCormick noted. "That stands out to students when it comes time to make a college decision. They want to interact with the expert, not someone only a few years ahead of them in school."
Another hallmark is the vibrant community life at these schools. "The community at CCU is absolutely unique," said Kyle Romberg, a senior. "Our location, near Denver and the mountains, lends itself to creating great opportunities, whether that means adventure or learning - or both. However, the relationships on campus are what really define CCU - they give our campus a vibrancy that I didn't find anywhere else."
Other distinctive aspects of these schools are the opportunities for innovative learning experiences and personal development. As a faith-based institution, CCU provides opportunities for students to grow personally - in chapel, small groups, and in First-Year Integration classes.
Students also are required to serve and interact with the surrounding community. Students put their skills to use teaching at-risk kids, going on mission trips, and fighting for causes they are passionate about - like the recently commissioned club, the Bella Joy Campaign, which raises awareness and funds to fight human trafficking.
