EMS Forms Partnership with Samaritan's Purse
Colorado Christian University's Employment Management Services (EMS) has formed a partnership with the international relief organization Samaritan's Purse to provide paid internships for students to gain experience in international aid.
A representative from the organization will be visiting CCU on February 20 to speak to the larger CCU community on the state on international aid. The talk will be at 9 a.m., with refreshments served at 8:30 a.m., in Beckman 202/210. The entire CCU community - including students, faculty, and staff - is invited.
Following the address, students interested in two-month summer internships will have the opportunity to interview with Samaritan's Purse throughout the day on February 20. Interviews are open to juniors and seniors of all majors.
"We're thrilled to partner with Samaritan's Purse," noted Ron Rex, an executive in residence at CCU and head of the EMS program. "With our student population and interest, it's important that we partner with nonprofit institutions. Samaritan's Purse enables us to do that while ensuring students get a high quality experience with excellent training, support, and fair remuneration."
Already, EMS has formed over 200 partnerships with local businesses, including Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies in the Denver area, where they place college students in paid jobs. Their relationship with Samaritan's Purse is the first major agreement with a nonprofit organization of national stature.
Students will be able to apply and interview for 20 different domestic jobs at the Samaritan's Purse headquarters in Boone, North Carolina. There, they will provide services such as writing, marketing, international relations work, or help managing Operation Christmas Child - which provides gifts to children throughout the world around Christmastime.
Openings are also available in 15-18 countries where Samaritan's Purse performs relief work. Students can serve abroad in areas such as communications, accounting, public health, or international relations.
"We're one of only seven universities in the nation to be selected to partner with Samaritan's Purse and provide them with interns," added Rex. "Still, the openings are very competitive. They're looking for quality students who have international experience and can hit the ground running. EMS is the sole contact on campus to get introduced to this great agency and it has been five years in the making to get the program strength, community connections and on the radar to major organizations. We are happy to bring this to CCU."
The domestic internships include housing and a monthly stipend of $1,500. International internships provide flights, vaccines, necessary visas, and a $1,000 monthly stipend.
Students interested in applying should contact Sharon Kitzmiller at skitzmiller@ccu.edu or 303.963.3153 by February 1.
