CCU Announces New Master of Public Administration Program
According to the International City/County Management Association, within the next five years, the majority of managers and leaders in local government jurisdictions will be eligible to retire. Colorado Christian University's new Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, starting this upcoming fall, is designed to equip men and women with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively meet this need.
"A career in public administration offers unique challenges," says Bob Brooks, CCU's director of public administration. "But a career in public administration is about service to your state, your community, and to your neighbors. During my career in public service, I felt every day that I had the opportunity to make someone's life better. Few careers offer that sentiment."
Pursuing an MPA prepares you to work in public service and government jobs, as well as the nonprofit and private sectors. With courses that teach communication, analytics, leadership, and problem-solving, a degree in public administration solidifies your ability to easily adapt to and advance both within and across sectors. Positions available may include city and county management, elected positions, state department heads, nonprofit CEOs, and more.
Statistics show that attaining a master's degree can significantly raise your average pay. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, "Recipients of master's degrees on average earn roughly $19,000 more than those with only a bachelor's degree." The salary for those with an MPA degree in both the public and private sectors can have an upward potential of over $100,000 in earnings per year.
The MPA Program at CCU was developed to directly address the core competencies needed for government and nonprofit administration. Courses will engage students in discovering all aspects of government operations including finances, human resource management, organizational change, and policy formation. The program will emphasize Christ-centered servant leadership.
Students will participate in activities that promote character development and organizational change so that they are equipped for leadership positions in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The MPA degree at CCU requires a total of 36 credit hours, including 12 required courses. For more information and to apply for CCU's Master of Public Administration program, visit www.ccu.edu/mpa.
