CCU Given Economic Development Award
Colorado Christian University is the winner of the 2016 Genesis Award, given annually by the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation, in recognition of outstanding economic development. Nominated by the city of Lakewood, CCU has contributed to the economic vitality of Jefferson County through its commitment to the area and current campus redevelopment.
We're glad to be given this Genesis Award, noted Dan Cohrs, vice president for Business Affairs at CCU. The city of Lakewood has been a great partner as we have rezoned and redeveloped campus, and it is a perfect location for our students as they begin their careers. They are able to volunteer in positive causes, and have excellent opportunities as they enter the workforce in area businesses, ministries, and schools.
Colorado Christian University, which has been in its present Lakewood location for nearly 50 years, seeks to equip students with top-notch academics and leadership opportunities while students live and grow in a Christ-centered community. Former Senator Bill Armstrong has been president of the institution since 2006, during which time the University has seen record enrollments in both its College of Undergraduate Studies and its College of Adult and Graduate Studies.
The school totals over 6,000 students comprised of traditional undergraduates and adult and graduate students who study at centers throughout the state and online. CCU also employs 400 full-time staff and faculty in the area.
As part of its Faith | Family | Freedom campaign, CCU is redeveloping its campus and committing to its presence in Lakewood, which will increase both the student population and that of support staff and faculty contributing to the area economy.
Our $120 million redevelopment project will enable us to better serve a larger population of students, as well as continue to contribute to the economic health of the area, Cohrs said.
The 23rd Annual Industry Appreciation Awards breakfast was emceed by CBS4 meteorologist Dave Aguilera. Congressman Ed Perlmutter attended the event and also read the winners into the Congressional Record of the 114th Congress.
