Nelson Appointed to Board of Trustees
An ordained minister through the Evangelical Free Church of America, Dr. Gerald L. (Jerry) Nelson, has been appointed to Colorado Christian University's (CCU) Board of Trustees.
Jerry Nelson has served in ministry for over 40 years. Prior to joining CCU's Board of Trustees, he was the senior pastor at Southern Gables Church (EFCA) from 1978 to 2009. During this time he became actively involved in CCU's efforts to inform public policy. He was also a Centennial Institute fellow from 2009 to 2012. Nelson is now a senior pastor emeritus of Southern Gables Church.
"For over 30 years I have observed CCU and have had many young adults from my church receive their education at CCU, but I have never been more optimistic about the future of CCU than now," said Dr. Nelson, newly appointed member of CCU's Board of Trustees. "The combination of scholarship and evangelical vitality will yield students well-prepared to serve our God and the world He has given us."
"Dr. Nelson is an avid advocate of Kingdom work," said Gary Armstrong, chair of the Board of Trustees. "His experience has touched all kinds of people from youth to pastors in India. We are blessed that he has decided to join CCU's leadership in this capacity."
Dr. Nelson developed and taught Indian Theological Education by extension courses at Trinity College and Seminary in India from 1997 to 2008. These courses were made available for Indian pastors who were unable to attend a residential Bible college or seminary.
Jerry was the adult ministries pastor at First Evangelical Covenant Church in Rockford, Illinois for three years and worked at the International Center for Learning through Gospel Light Publications where he led teaching seminars across the nation. He also has extensive experience working with youth, including leading Youth and Christian Education programs at Crystal Evangelical Free Church in Minnesota, and was a youth pastor at Oxboro Evangelical Free Church in Minnesota.
Nelson earned his Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, a Master of Arts in Leadership at Denver Seminary, and was in the master's program in marriage and family counseling in Northern Illinois University. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees from both the University of Minnesota and Moody Bible Institute. He also is a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Divinity from Trinity College and Seminary in India.
