McTavish Elected Vice Chair of CCU Board of Trustees
Colorado businessman and entrepreneur Tim McTavish has been elected as vice chair of the Board of Trustees of Colorado Christian University; it was announced today by Gary Armstrong, chairman of the board.
“Tim models a life of generosity and faithful stewardship,” said Gary Armstrong, chairman of the CCU Board of Trustees. “He has a passion for creating a Christ-centered work environment and encourages other business owners to effectively live out their faith in the workplace.”
McTavish’s relationship with CCU began when he decided to tour the campus after hearing about the University at a men’s Bible study. During the tour he met with the late Bill Armstrong, then University president. According to McTavish, Armstrong “gave me a Bible quiz. Not long after, I was invited to join the board.” McTavish has been an active member of the CCU Board of Trustees since 2009, and is currently teaching an Entrepreneurship course as an adjunct professor in CCU’s School of Business and Leadership.
McTavish grew up in a Christian home and has always considered himself a follower of Jesus. However, 10 years into his entrepreneurial journey with his business InsureMe.com, he was confronted with a paradigm-shifting question posed by one of his young employees: “Tim, do you know Jesus?”
Humbled by his employee’s boldness, Tim McTavish rededicated his life and business to God; he began to implement basic biblical principles in the workplace — and the results were impressive. Employee turnover at InsureMe.com dropped from more than 300% to less than 10%, and profits grew tenfold in five years. In 2007, InsureMe.com was honored with being ranked in the Top 25 Great Places to Work in America by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and was also awarded the Most Philanthropic Small Business in Colorado by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
In 2008, Tim sold InsureMe to Bankrate, a public company. Since then, Tim has enjoyed a deeper connection with his family, completed his MBA at Colorado Christian University in 2013, and has launched his next venture, GivingZone.com — a crowdfunding site to encourage broad-based giving and help nonprofit groups with their fundraising efforts.
With his job title at GivingZone.com as "chairman and faithful steward wannabe,” Tim's mission is to inspire people to live within their means, give generously to life-changing causes, and fall in love with Jesus.
“Tim not only believes in faithful stewardship, but actively demonstrates how to be a good and faithful steward of both the resources and the relationships God has entrusted to us,” said CCU president Dr. Donald W. Sweeting. “The choice to elect him as vice chair of our Board of Trustees was an indubitable choice.”
Tim and his wife Pam have been married for over 20 years. They live in Parker, Colorado with their three children. Two of their children are CCU undergraduates: their son David ’18, is a business administration major, and daughter Katie ’20, is a communication major. The McTavish family attends the Newday Christian Seventh-day Adventist Church where they have been actively involved for many years.
