CCU Mourns the Loss of Professor Wayne Smith
Colorado Christian University mourns the loss of Dr. Wayne E. Smith, professor of finance and business in the School of Business and Leadership, who passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 from complications connected with multiple sclerosis. He was 59 years old.
Dr. Smith had more than 30 years of experience in nonprofits, small business, teaching, human resources, higher education, executive coaching, and administration. His doctoral work and his continuing research was in artificial intelligence, specifically using intelligent agents to address business needs.
Dr. Smith was unlike many others; with untold suffering, he consistently lived out his favorite verse of Scripture, which he quoted every day at the start of every single class: "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us be glad and rejoice in it." — Psalm 118:24. His joy, peace, and equanimity in Christ was evident to any and all who knew him, up to and including the last day of his life.
He leaves behind a widow, Brenda, and three children as well as three grandchildren. He will long be remembered as a kind, caring, loving Southern gentlemen, who dearly loved his Lord and Savior. His funeral will be held in Abilene, Texas, sometime after Christmas.
