CCU Partners with FirstBank to Provide First-Generation Student Scholarships

Colorado Christian University and FirstBank are excited to announce a new scholarship that will support first-generation students in their efforts to earn a bachelor's degree through the College of Undergraduate Studies. The $240,000 commitment for a $60,000 annual scholarship will provide $6,000 to 10 first-generation minority students annually for up to four years.

"The generous scholarship partnership with FirstBank is a true blessing for first-generation students as they navigate the process of securing funding for their education," said Dan Cohrs, executive vice president at CCU. "At Colorado Christian University, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to ensure that all students are successful and receive a world-class, Christian liberal arts education."

The FirstBank scholarship recognizes current high school seniors who are Colorado residents and have performed at a high level academically, in addition to their standing as a first-generation student. Recipients are required to have earned a 3.0 GPA throughout high school and must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their college coursework to remain eligible.

"FirstBank is honored to partner with CCU on this important initiative, by providing the opportunity for a diverse group of students to pursue higher education right here in their home state," said Stu Wright, executive vice president at FirstBank. "We offer our sincerest congratulations to all of the 2020 scholarship recipients and their families."

Through this strategic partnership, the University hopes that more first-generation students will be able to consider a CCU education as a compelling option. The FirstBank First Generation Scholarship is one of many new initiatives aimed at growing awareness of the University to key potential applicants, including first-generation students and traditionally underrepresented populations such as those with high financial need.

"At CCU we're dedicated to making Christ-centered higher education affordable for students from all backgrounds," said Steve Woodburn, assistant vice president of financial aid. "This new scholarship will be an important tool in guaranteeing that students dedicated to earning their degree can do so at CCU."
