CCU Women's Golf Advances to NCAA Tournament

Senior Faith Kilgore captures individual crown

Colorado Christian University Women’s Golf advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga., following the team’s second-place finish last week in the West regional. CCU senior Faith Kilgore led all golfers at 9 under par to win the tournament by three strokes. It was Kilgore’s fourth win in her last five tournaments.

“It was a quick turnaround this week as we immediately left for Georgia to chase the national championship,” Philip Nelson, CCU head coach, said. “The team is focused and ready to seize the opportunity. I’m enormously proud to coach these talented female student-athletes and walk alongside them on this journey.”

Senior Emily Donaldson found success in the final round with a bogey-free 69 to finish tied for fifth. Courtney Andersson played consistently well all week, achieving a top-20 finish. As a team, the Cougars set a new single-round record at 288 in the second round.

“These women faced windy conditions on a challenging course, but they didn’t let either stand in their way,” Nelson said. “They have grown immensely this year, persevered and achieved goals beyond our wildest dreams. What an incredible season it has been for this dedicated team.”

Heading into the national championship, Kilgore was named the 2022 RMAC Women’s Academic Golfer of the Year and a member of the All-Academic First Team. Kilgore earned the accolades during an impressive senior season in which she held a 3.75 grade-point average as a psychology major, earned top honors on the links, and pushed the Cougars to a team championship with an individual title at the 2022 RMAC Women’s Golf Championship in April. Kilgore is currently ranked seventh in the nation among NCAA Division II golfers.

Kilgore is not the only Cougar to take home hardware this season; Nelson was recently named RMAC Coach of the Year. Since taking over in 2015, Nelson has led the program to new heights, including coaching two athletes to RMAC Freshman of the Year honors. A former standout player for CCU, Nelson captained the men’s team from 2009-2011.
