CCU Celebrates More Than 1,400 Graduates
The class of 2023 is the largest in University history
Colorado Christian University honored more than 1,400 graduates during the University's 108th commencement on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colo. CCU held two commencement ceremonies, the first was for the College of Adult and Graduate Studies and the second was for the College of Undergraduate Studies.
"While in many ways today marks the celebratory end of one chapter for graduates and families, it also marks the exciting beginning of the next chapter in God's plan," said Interim President Tim McTavish. "Each member of the class of 2023 brings unique skills and the abilities that will empower them to change the world with grace and truth."
The class of 2023 included a record number of graduate degrees awarded, with the University conferring 442 master's degrees and nine doctoral degrees. The School of Counseling had the largest number of graduates, with 220 individuals earning their master's in clinical mental health counseling. The University awarded 623 undergraduate bachelor's and associate degrees to adult learners in the College of Adult and Graduate Studies. CCU conferred 355 bachelor's degrees to students from the College of Undergraduate Studies. Additionally, 54 high school students earned an associate degree through CCU Academy, the University's third academic division.
The graduates join nearly 24,000 living alumni throughout Colorado, across the nation, and around the globe. Dr. Donald W. Sweeting, chancellor at CCU, provided the keynote address. He provided four next-chapter priorities as graduates move from the end of this chapter to the next chapter in their lives. These included being faithful in little things, being bold in big things, staying anchored in eternal things, and always resolving to take the high road.
Also honored on Friday were Dallas Jenkins and Carole McVaney, who were each awarded an honorary doctorate by the University's Board of Trustees. An honorary doctorate is the highest award given by the University. Jenkins is a celebrated film producer and director best known for his hit multi-season series about the life of Jesus Christ entitled "The Chosen." McVaney is a kingdom-minded philanthropist with a deep love for education, the vulnerable, and the country.
