Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University Launches ‘Last Lecture Series’

LAKEWOOD, Colo.,The Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University has launched its “Last Lecture Series,” inviting CCU professors to share their wisdom with the next generation and inspire them to pursue faith and truth with new insight.

Inspired by the story of former Carnegie Mellon professor Randy Pausch who, after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, presented a final lecture of lessons he had always wanted to share with his students, Centennial Institute posed the question: “If this was your last chance to address your students, how would you summarize your accumulated wisdom into a concise summation?”

“The idea of a ‘last lecture’ inspired me to consider some of the goals I have had in the classroom. What wisdom and permanent truths do I hope to instill in my students?” said Greg Schaller, Centennial Institute director. “As professors, we are all driven by the desire to impart wisdom into the lives of young men and women. Our hope is to provide a platform for CCU faculty to present their expertise in light of the permanent truths they hope will inspire their students.”

The series kicked off with CCU’s Associate Professor of Philosophy Michael Plato’s “Rules for Rebels” on March 17, focused on sparking rebellion in a world where revolution and radicalism has become the norm.

“My goal is not to level the playing field—for the playing field is already a bombed-out nuclear wasteland—but to help people restore their deepest level of humanity,” shared Plato in his presentation.

Associate Professor of Theology John Wind presented his lecture on April 14, examining some of the pressing questions American Christians are grappling with today: Is Christian Nationalism good or bad? What should the role of Christians be in the American public square? And how should Christians promote human flourishing in our society and culture?

As the Last Lecture series continues, the Centennial Institute aims to equip students and members of the community with knowledge and wisdom in a variety of subject matters, including society, education, and theology.
