Biography and Professional Achievements
Mark holds the Master of Music (2001) degree in Horn Performance from the University of Colorado (CU) and the Master of Education (1989) and the Bachelor of Science in Music Education (1988) from Bob Jones University (BJU) in Greenville, SC. Mark’s horn teachers include: Louis Stout (Prof. Emeritus University of Michigan), David Pinkow (Professor, CU) and Jeannette Schlimgen (Professor, BJU).
Mark’s previous teaching positions include as Assistant Professor of Horn and Music Education for 18 years (2001-2019) at Bob Jones University; Horn Professor at Truett McConnell University in Cleveland, GA for 2 years (2017-2019); Band Director for 11 years (1989-2000) in Michigan. Mark was honored while teaching in Michigan with the prestigious award: WHO’S WHO AMONG AMERICA’S TEACHERS for 1998.
Mark’s playing experience includes playing in the horn sections of a number of professional orchestras in the Southeast: Greenville Symphony Orchestra (SC), Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra (NC), Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra (SC), Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (SC). Additionally, Mark is a past studio recording artist, playing principal horn for a major sacred publishing house putting out a CD every year from 2002-2013. In 2010, Mark made his solo debut with orchestra playing a 2 night performance of Richard Strauss’s Horn Concerto #1 with the Foothills Philharmonic Orchestra in Greenville, SC.
Many of Mark’s former horn students are either playing in the U.S. military bands, band director’s or ministering in churches across the country continuing to use their talents serving the Lord.
Besides teaching, Mark assists in his church’s orchestra and enjoys playing golf, cycling and working in and around his home he shares with his wife and family in Lafayette, CO.
