Meet Amy
What inspired you to go back to school to complete your degree?
I was inspired by the Lord's leading and my family. I had the privilege of staying home with my children when they were small. Before having kids, I was a mortgage loan officer. With my youngest starting first grade, it was time for me to go back to work full-time. Banking hours are often long, contrary to the saying, "bankers' hours." It was time to complete my education degree so I could work in the same place with similar hours to my kids.
How is CCU making it possible for you to achieve your goals and pursue your passion?
Habakkuk 3:19 says, "The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places" (KJV). Returning to college at age 40 has been a journey of faith; full of mountains and valleys, but God has been faithful. Colorado Christian University offered the perfect program for me to complete my bachelor's degree in elementary education. As a pastor's wife, mother, and employee, attending classes on a traditional campus seemed impossible. Not only did CCU offer classes from a Christian perspective, the scheduling and online format gave me the chance to accomplish a lifelong goal — earning a college degree.
What are the top 2-3 things that helped set you up for success as a student at CCU?
There are many things that set me up for success as a student at CCU. Initially, the support I received from the staff was a big deal. They helped me with every step as I transferred my credits and registered for classes. They were continually available with support, which, in my experience, is not the norm. I also liked the online format. With a family, work, and a busy life, CCU put classes at my fingertips. A traditional campus would not have worked for me at this point in my life. Furthermore, the quality of instruction I received from the education department at CCU was amazing. They really prepared me for teaching.
How does CCU help you integrate faith in your personal and professional life?
I love the Lord with my whole heart. It was very refreshing to share and learn from a Christian perspective. My education classes also focused on being a Christian teacher in a public school. These were valuable lessons that I am leaning heavily on today.
What challenges (if any) did you face during your time as a student at CCU?
Balancing school, work, and a family were often challenging. There was often not a lot of time between classes or not enough hours in the day. My family was a huge support. Jesus was with me, which made this possible. I really think there were times He made the sun and the moon stand still while I finished things!
How would you describe the value of the education you received/are receiving from CCU compared to your investment?
Education is definitely an investment. Now that I am teaching, I recognize the quality of education I received from CCU. I feel equipped to do my job. CCU provided amazing instructors and mentors that just poured into my life. These people are some of education's finest. I feel blessed with the quality of education I received.
