Meet Betty
What inspired you to go back to school to complete your degree?
There's a sense of pride when it comes to earning your degree. I had not experienced that feeling but saw friends of mine live it out. I am happy to say I can now take pride in the fact that I used what self-control I had, to urge myself on towards the goal of two degrees!
Where do you work?
I work as a morning show personality on a Christian radio station called WayFM. I am the Wally Show co-host and audio producer.
What is your highest level of education?
I graduated from high school in 2003, but waited until 2016 to go back to school at CCU and earn two bachelor's in Healthcare Administration and Applied Psychology.
How has your degree assisted you in your life and career?
While I don't work in a field that requires a degree in health care or psychology, I do believe my psychology degree has helped me become a better communicator as well as listener in the field I am currently in.
What do you plan to do with your degree?
While I do not know what God ultimately has in store for me, I believe he's given me a longing to work with the elderly. I would love to someday be in charge of activities, perhaps at an assisted living facility.
How did CCU make it possible for you to achieve your goals and pursue your passion?
CCU made it possible for me to keep my full-time job with its odd hours and earn my degree on my own time. I don't know if I could have done it any other way. Now, I am equipped with knowledge I need to be the best I can be.
What are the top 2-3 things that helped set you up for success as a student at CCU?
The online CCU community was a great experience. You are able to communicate with other students walking through the same classes you are and not feel so alone. Also, the teachers were great at getting back to you on information you might need to do the assignment correctly.
There are many options when it comes to choosing a school. Why did you choose CCU?
I love that CCU not only gives you the knowledge you need to be a great candidate for the job you want, they also help you grow deeper in your faith, helping you see how Christianity plays a part in all things.
How does CCU help you integrate faith in your personal and professional life?
The books I had to read for my classes all had a Christian perspective and some of the lessons I got from those books, I have taken with me to use in my personal and professional life.
What challenges did you face during your time as a student at CCU?
It takes a lot of self-control to earn your degree online. You will have friends and family pulling for your attention, and, while these people certainly deserve some of your time, you have to be strategic with what time you give, so that your classes don't suffer. I had to learn how to balance life, work, and school all while taking classes. The good news is I was able to figure it out!
How did CCU make it possible for you to complete your degree?
CCU made sure I was set up to win by making sure I had the books I needed and the assistance to enroll for the right classes.
How would you describe the value of the education you received from CCU compared to your investment?
It's so easy to put your money towards things that can drag you down spiritually. What I love about CCU is you know you are not only investing in your mind, but your heart and soul too. You can be doing your assigned reading, as well as get a lesson from the Bible. It's A win, win.
