Whether you are majoring in one of CCU's School of Education programs or not, the College of Undergraduate Studies coaching minor provides an opportunity for you to gain foundational knowledge and field experiences in coaching, championing your secondary students to strengthen their skills and pursue excellence both on and off the field. The minor in coaching helps you fine tune strong communication and critical thinking skills, broadening career possibilities with a formal credential that can open leadership opportunities and expand future coaching experiences.
This Coaching minor infuses existing coursework from the Kinesiology and Exercise Science major with existing coursework within the School of Education: Professional Core. As part of the coaching minor, you will increase your knowledge of physical education pedagogy, become equipped with tools to inspire and promote health and wellness, and you will apply evidence-based kinesthetic principles and leadership skills to prepare student athletes for peak performance. Through fieldwork and coursework in the fundamentals of coaching and team development, graduates of the coaching minor will demonstrate a thorough and diverse understanding of coaching curricula that results in student learning, motivation, and independence.
Coaching at CCU
Romans 12: 6-8 promotes the use of spiritual gifts, including serving others, teaching, encouraging, and leading diligently; coaching embodies all of these God-given gifts, often used simultaneously as well as individually. Every course in the coaching minor program will engage you in fine tuning your gifts and talents through faith integration activities, as you study and implement pedagogical techniques consistent with a Christian worldview. The program’s biblically-focused curriculum emphasizes the moral and spiritual underpinnings of teaching and its impact on others while equipping you to grow in your Christian faith.

About the School of Education

The School of Education offers a variety of academic programs ranging from Elementary and Secondary Education to Classical Education and Special Education. You will be taught and mentored by exceptional faculty who have all been licensed as teachers or administrators in Colorado. You will get your first field experience during your freshman year, working with students in local elementary, middle, and high schools under the supervision of exemplary teachers to gain expert experience.
